What is Automator?
You know, that friendly robot icon from Launchpad and the Applications folder on my computer. Automator doesn’t look like the other apps, and I’m not sure what it’s supposed to do, or even how to use it. Can you help out here, and tell me what’s up with the Robot Guy?” <-- what you’re thinking
Glad to assist. <-- us responding
First of all, his name is “Otto” — as in “Otto the Automator”, “Otto the Auto-Dude”, or “The ‘Mator Man.” And he works for you, as a chef — an “Automation Chef,” who makes and runs “Automation Recipes” called workflows. And boy are they yummy.
If there’s a time-consuming task you need to do with the computer, Otto’s your man.
If you want to reduce 10 steps to one, Otto’s your man.
If you want an app to do more than it can normally do, Otto’s your man.
If you want to turn a text selection into an instant digital book, Otto’s your man.
If you want to encode audio or video files, right in the Finder’s Desktop, Otto’s your man.
If you want to rename fifty files in five seconds, Otto’s your man.
By the way…
